SUMMARY:Everyone Can Preach Good News! Communicating the Transformative Message of the Gospel
DESCRIPTION:December 8th-9th | 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (CST) each day\nThis workshop is designed persons of any age or stage of their Christian life who desire to understand the need for authentic proclamation of the Christian Gospel. It makes accessible to all persons\, including preachers\, who recognize the proclamatory nature of the Christian life\, and at the same time\, makes real the assertion that preaching is the proclamation of the good news of the Gospel. \nUsing the text Good News Preaching: Offering the Gospel in Every Sermon\, the workshop offers critical information on preparing a good news message that is based on the Gospel and engages attendees in practical ways to develop and present that message in formal and informal settings. \nWorkshop Leaders: Rev. Dr. Gennifer Brooks\, Rev. Dr. Andrew Wymer\, Bishop Dwight Riddick \nFormat: Participants can register to attend in-person on 91PORN’s campus (2121 Sheridan Road\, Evanston\, IL) or they may attend virtually. \nDeadline to Register: December 7\, 2022\nOnline link will be sent to registrants by 8 a.m. (CST) on December 8th. SUMMARY:Webinar | Native Americans and Christianity: A Conversation with Rev. Chebon Kernell
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Rev. Chebon Kernell\nCo-sponsored by the Center for Ecological Regeneration and the Stead Center for Ethics and Values in support of Garrett’s Indigenous Study Committee. \nChebon Kernell has been an executive in the United Methodist church for the past decade.  He has worked for the General Board of Global Ministries and the denomination’s Native American Comprehensive Plan.  In this role\, he has worked with the World Council of Churches\, the New International Financial and Economic Architecture (NIFEA)\, the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the United Methodist Church’s Council of Bishops assisting in a denominational mandated effort to improve relationships with Indigenous People through dialogue\, study and local or regional acts of repentance acknowledging harms inflicted upon Indigenous communities.   In addition\, he spends his time raising awareness\, increasing advocacy\, and supporting the empowerment of Native American and Indigenous communities globally. \nChebon is an enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and is of Muscogee Creek heritage.    In 2016 he was honored by receiving the Religious Literacy Award sponsored by the Westar Institute “for his tireless efforts to educate the general public\, including not only mainstream American Christians but also native peoples themselves\, about the ‘deep and broad religious riches’ of Indigenous peoples in the context of reconciliation work and the recovery of native practices. “  \nHe received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Oklahoma City University and a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary.  He is a cultural practitioner and member of the Helvpe Ceremonial grounds.  He has been married to Sara for 22 years and has five children Kaycee\, Josiah\, Raylen\, and Solomon and Cali.
