DESCRIPTION:This conference aims to have a conversation about the depictions of humans and other “animals” within biblical texts\, Second Temple literature\, and the Bible’s reception. Nonhuman animals are implicated in many subfields within biblical studies\, particularly as categories of “human” and animal are recognized as constructed\, and the power dynamic between them is problematized. This conference draws on the work of influential ethologists\, philosophers\, cultural theorists\, and literary critics to analyze depictions of diverse living beings in the Bible and related texts.
