SUMMARY:Sacred Sisters' Annual Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Come one\, come all to the Sacred Sisters’ Annual Retreat\, October 5-7\, 2022 at the Crowne Plaza NorthBrook\, Northbrook IL.  This year it is all in person! Our Theme is “Resting in the Presence of God” based on Psalm\, 42:1-2 and Psalm 46:10. \nOur leader will be Dr. Gennifer Benjamin Brooks.  She holds the Styberg Chair in Preaching as the Styberg Professor of Preaching and the Director of the Styberg Preaching Institute and the DMin Program at 91PORN\, and Dean of the ACTS DMin in Preaching program. Dr. Brooks  is the author of several books\, including Bible Sisters: A Year of Devotions with the Women of the Bible\, Good News Preaching: Offering the Gospel in Every Sermon\, and Unexpected Grace: Preaching Good News from Difficult Texts.  \nJoin us as this will be such a time of renewal\, peace and presence! We are looking forward to seeing you\, sisters. \nThe retreat starts at 9:30 am Central Time on October 5 and ends October 7 after the 11:00 am Central closing event. \nThe registration cost is $150.00 per person and closes September 30th\, 2022. \nReserve the hotel by calling the Crowne Plaza at 847 298-2525. DESCRIPTION:Necessary Care to Inhabit the Earth: \nTheological Reflections from the Global South\nIt is with great joy that we invite you to participate in the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the Hispanic-Latinx Center. October 6th will be a historic milestone for the Garrett community\, as we will be honored to virtually welcome one of the great theologians of our time\, Leonardo Boff. \nRecognized worldwide as one of the leading liberation theologians\, Boff has expanded his work since the 1980s\, delving into ecological issues as extensions of liberation theology. As a tireless activist for the poor and excluded\, he argues that we need to hear not only the cry of the oppressed\, but also the cry of the Earth–both are in need of deliverance. \nThe planetary crisis that weighs on the overexploited Mother Earth and the weakening of democratic structures in many nations\, demand from us a reflection about viable paths that make possible a new way of living in kinship. This must be based on the values ​​of justice and equity\, love and kindness\, wisdom and respect for all beings that inhabit our planet. It is precisely on these themes that Boff will reflect\, inviting us to think about the care needed to inhabit this common house. \nThe lecture will take place online and is free to attend. For community members in the Evanston/Chicago area\, you are invited to join us for a watch party on campus (location TBA) and then for a time of lunch conversation following the lecture. O dia 6 de outubro será um marco histórico para a comunidade Garrett\, pois teremos a honra de receber virtualmente um dos grandes teólogos do nosso tempo\, Leonardo Boff. \nReconhecido mundialmente como um dos principais teólogos da libertação\, Boff expandiu seu trabalho desde a década de 1980\, investigando questões ecológicas como prolongamentos da teologia da libertação.
